Abstract

This present thesis had for purpose to make a detailed analysis of the ideological impact generated, in the brazilian historic-cultural context of years 1870, for the censorship of the portuguese drama ¿Os Lazaristas¿, of Antonio Enes. The prohibition of the assembly of the drama was ordained for the Brazilian Dramatic Conservatory in june of 1875, with the justification of that the play stimulated anticlerical ideas. This study emphasized the reading of newspapers and magazines that circulated in 1875, year of the alluded censorship, being that the press served of principal scene for discussions and the debates triggered for the prohibition of the drama. The deep analysis of the controversies disclosed that, in a period so complicated as that one, characterized for the crisis between the Empire and the Catolic religion, the theater emerged as a space propitious for politic and social discussions, capable to influence the public opinion and to spread out new ideas (AU)
