Abstract

Based on the recent process of expansion of higher education in Social Sciences, this research investigates the possible effects of these transformations on the contexts of the course, employability, and professional identity of graduates in recent years. The main objective is to analyze how to characterize the relationship between training and working for the former students of Social Sciences, and especially investigate what are the possible differences (compared with other generations) in the constitution of professional identities of these graduates. After conducting an exploratory survey with more than two thousand social scientists, thirty-five graduates were selected from different courses and jobs for a detailed research that investigated their educational and career trajectories, and their perceptions of this process. The analysis of these trajectories was performed using four axes: the reasons for choosing the career, the context for the course, the professional career after the graduation and, finally, the professional identity in these educational and professional paths.
