Abstract

This present essay aims to understand the different knowledge about eating disorders, as well the experiences of individuals with anorexia and bulimia. Its objective is, therefore, to understand the biomedical, nutritional and psychoanalytical concepts and pratices legitimized, contextualizing these diseases and mapping the field from ethnographic institution, to investigate how these individuals experience their bodies and these disorders, which are the meanings and senses of their bodies and how they incorporate (or not) the medical and media speech about these disorders, and investigate the demands of culture, the ideals, images of beauty and valued patterns, cultural practices, their effects on the ways of experiencing the body and forms of subjectivity. In this way, the field research was conducted in a psychoanalytic institution, where I could follow the activities carried out by psychoanalysts of the institution, specialized in eating disorders. The contact with this institution allowed me not only the access to psychoanalytic knowledge, as well as psychiatry and nutrition, to the extent that eating disorders are considered psychiatric disorders, in which the most widely accepted explanation is one that considers the multiple causes, including biological, psychological and socio-cultural factors, which justifies the multidisciplinary approach. Furthermore, through this institution I also had access to patients, from whom I try to reflect about the constitution of the body and subjectivity, approaching that to the narratives of Pro-Anna e Mia blogs, a movement that considers anorexia and bulimia lifestyles, and not pathologies. Thus, try to compose the broad phenomenon related to eating disorders, ideals of beauty, health care and other regulations. (AU)
