Abstract

This dissertation aims the analysis of the conceptions of science and progress in the texts written by the portuguese physician António Nunes Ribeiro Sanches (1699 - 1783) regarding mainly his role as mediator between the Enlightened Europe and the portuguese reforms at the eighteenth century. On this concern, we approach his intellectual image under a double scope, considering first the reconstitution of his intelletual networks in order to define his position among the scientific community of the eighteenth century early modern Europe, and secondly the analysis of his thoughts and political orientations, focusing on the conceptions of science and progress.
