Abstract

Research focused on the analysis of experiments and didatic methods of the architect Sérgio Ferro in his teaching practice, since his beginning at FAU-USP right after he graduated, enrolling in the history of arts and esthetics class in 1962, going through proposals of a new way of teaching architecture on the implementation of the University of Architecture and Urbanism of Santos (between 1967 and 1968), culminating on his formulations and experiments in Grenoble, France, iniciated in 1972. Even though having a unique distinctiveness, the practice of teaching communicates with Sérgio Ferro\'s other lines of production: his architecture works, represented basically by residencial projects and his theoretic writings - that are the results of his commitment to the political and cultural scene and of his criticism regarding the national project oriented towards development to which modern architecture was connected - during the period between the end of 1950 until 1970. In that way, the research is oriented by the analysis and understanding of his texts under the light of political and cultural debates of the time, moving past the field of architecture, besides a critical view on his works and especially of the analysis of his experiences as a professor that had an effect on several other courses of architecture. With this, it is intended to establish a discussion between concepts and works, while elaborating the practice of teaching, verifying the agreements and contradictions of this architect who marked deeply the brazilian modern architecture and the teaching of architecture.
