Abstract

This monograph discusses the production of João Batista Vilanova Artigas between the years 1967 and 1977, with the horizon of the subject matters of national development during the military dictatorship. During the 1960s, the brazilian modern architecture that had been tied to the project of modernizing the country began to suffer criticism from its members, intensified after 1964. Such criticisms were as focused on the limitations of the developmental vision and vision strictly nationalist who was tied to the architecture, which eventually hide social problems linked to the production architecture. As an important member of the developmental vision that was being questioned, and face the need to position hiself to such criticism, the architectural de Vilanova Artigas is important to be object of analysis. Because it reveals not only his option for developmental and nationalistic vision, but also his rich contribution to this debate. (AU)
