Abstract

This thesis presents a case study of the play O Rei da Vela, written by Oswald de Andrade in the 1930s, and first staged in 1967, by the Oficina group. The objective of this research was to understand through documents, depositions and literature, what this event meant to the issue of censorship and freedom of expression in Brazil. For this, we tried to understand through the memories involved, the context of its enactment, ie, the years 1967 to 1982, mainly as the date of 1968 was built as a landmark in the minds of the AI-5 and censorship in the country.
