Abstract

Introduction: The newborn hearing screening does not guarantee the population\'s access to specialized care and at the appropriate time, furthermore, doesn\'t exclude the possibility of later or progressive hearing loss. Seeking alternatives to solve this problem, projects relating to train community health agents (CHA) on hearing health have been developed, investigating the effectiveness of different forms and interactive tele-education tools. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of the CD-ROM as an interactive tele-education tool in the training of CHA in infant hearing health. Methods: The sample was composed of 43 CHA from Bauru-SP who received prior training on hearing health and 47 CHA from Itajaí-SC, without prior training. The CD-ROM was developed in a previous project (CNPq, process number (485508/2007-9) and contains five chapters, ranging from prevention to rehabilitation of hearing impairment. The work implementation was structured in stages: Stage 1 - Training in basic computer science; Stage 2 - CHA training; Stage 3 - development of a simulated daily situations; Stage 4 - CD-ROM\'s validation as an interactive tele-education tool: The use and learning of the content was evaluated by comparing the performance of a questionnaire carried out before and immediately after training, the performance in the activity of simulated daily situations, and a qualitative questionnaire about interactive tele-education tool used. Stage 5 - Data analysis: We used the Wilcoxon test, the Friedman test and the Mann-Whitney test, considering the significance level of 5%. Results: The comparison of the performance pre and immediate post-training showed a significant difference for both groups, for the total scores and for the domains assessed by questionnaire. The Bauru group performed better in the pre training and this difference remained after training for only domain 1. As regards the performance of the CHA in the simulator of daily situations, there was significant difference between both groups, with better performance of Bauru. No correlation was observed between the immediate post-training performance and the evaluation through the simulator. Qualitative analysis of the views of CHA on the CD-ROM showed that there was high acceptability of this interactive tele-education tool. Conclusion: The CD-ROM \"Infantile Hearing Health\" is an effective interactive tele-education tool for training of CHA in children\'s hearing health, representing a resource that can help CHA to conduct a qualitative and integral assistance to the population throughout the country.
