Abstract

This work aimed to analyze new guidelines in the policy of the Jesuit mission in Japan implemented by the Visitor and Vicar General in Asia Alessandro Valignano. All this, with the primary object of analysis and comparison of the chronicle Historia de Japam (1584-1594), in which the Jesuit Luis Fróis wrote about the history of Japanese mission since its inception (1549) until the year 1594. In order to collate this chronicle with the broader context of the missionary policy of the Visitor, we also analyzed the work Ceremonial (1583), written by Valignano in order to establish the specificity of his missionary policy. From this, we had to evaluate what are the guidelines that come off of the proposal contained in the Ceremonial and to verify its implementation, integrations or any valuation differences that might be found in the vision of Luis Fróis in his Historia de Japam.
