Prof. Ângelo de Fátima holds a Bachelor's and Licentiate degree in Chemistry from the Federal University of Viçosa (1999), a Master's in Organic Chemistry (2002), a Ph.D. in Sciences (2005), and a Postdoctoral degree in Biochemistry-Signal Transduction (2006) from the State University of Campinas. He completed a sabbatical period (02/2018-02/2019) at the University of North Texas (UNT, USA). He is a member of the Interdisciplinary Evaluation Chamber of FAPEMIG (04/2025-Present). Prof. de Fátima is the creator of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for calixcoca, having been responsible for the design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of V4N2 (the API for calixcoca) (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jare.2021.09.003). In 2023, Prof. de Fátima and other researchers involved in the calixcoca project received the EURO Highlight Award. Since 2022, he has been a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Institute of Exact Sciences (ICEx) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). His expertise lies in Organic and Biological Chemistry (with an emphasis on Organic Synthesis), focusing on the following topics: (i) Synthesis of molecules with biological and/or technological functional profiles,(ii) Total synthesis of natural products and analogs with pharmacological/immunological activity, (iii) Synthesis of immunogens/vaccines for the treatment of chemical dependency, (iv) Synthesis of new psychoactive substances (NPS) for biophysical/pharmacological and forensic studies. He serves as a reviewer for various indexed scientific journals and as an advisor for national and international funding agencies. He has been a standing and/or invited editorial board member for The Chemical Record (IF = 7.0 - JCR2023), Journal of Advanced Research (IF = 11.4 - JCR2023), and Journal of Chemistry (IF = 3.0 - JCR2023). Since 2015, he has been an Associate Editor for the Journal of Advanced Research (IF = 11.4 - JCR2023). He served as Deputy Coordinator (11/201104/2014) and Coordinator (05/201408/2017) of the Graduate Program in the Department of Chemistry (ICEx/UFMG), President (08/202112/2023) and Member of the User Committee (10/202410/2026) of the Extension and Service Center of the Department of Chemistry (ICEx/UFMG), and Coordinator of the Minas Gerais Chemistry Olympiad (20082010). He was a founding partner of Hargon - Mental Health Research and Development Ltd (20192022), a company dedicated to promoting the integration of health technologies into the market. He is the coordinator of INCT (National Institute of Science and Technology) in Urease Inhibitors of Agricultural and Medicinal Interest, the Minas Gerais Network for Bio-stimulants and Enhanced Efficiency Fertilizers, and the Study Group in Organic and Biological Chemistry (GEQOB). Throughout his career as a professor/researcher, he has published 175 scientific articles, 17 book chapters, and filed 18 patent applications (one of them international). In 2022, Stanford University (USA) recognized Prof. de Fátima as one of the 64 most influential UFMG scientists in the world. He has organized 30 regional, national, and international scientific events, including traditional Brazilian Chemical Society meetings such as the Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis (17th and 18th editions) and the Brazilian Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry (10th edition - Chair). He has supervised 15 Master's theses, 26 Ph.D. dissertations, 9 postdoctoral fellows, 15 undergraduate final projects, 75 scientific initiations, and 7 UFMG undergraduate internships. Currently, he supervises 4 Master's theses, 7 Ph.D. dissertations, 5 postdoctoral fellows, and 7 scientific initiations/final projects. Prof. Ângelo de Fátima is a member of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ), the Brazilian Soil Science Society (SBCS), and the Brazilian Forensic Science Society (SBCF).
