Jayme Garcia Arnal Barbedo

Jayme Garcia Arnal Barbedo has received his bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (1998), and his master and Ph.D. degrees from the State University of Campinas in 2001 and 2004, respectively. He worked at CPqD Computer and IT Solutions between 2004 and 2005, helping with the studies to define the Brazilian Digital Television Standard. He conducted post-doctoral research at Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA) between 2006 and 2007, and at University of Victoria (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) between 2008 and 2009. Between 2005 and 2011, he acted as a collaborator researcher at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC) of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), working with a variety of audio signal processing problems and advising two masters students. Since 2011, he works as a Senior Researcher at the Digital Agriculture unit (Campinas, SP) of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). His current areas of interest include: use of image processing and artificial intelligence for plant disease recognition; use of hyperspectral imagery for detection of diseases and toxins in grains and plants; detecting and counting ticks in cattle using thermal imagery;fish counting using digital images; use of drones for cattle monitoring in the field; use of satellite images for classification of crops; among others.
