Birthplace: Brazil

I have a degree in Animal Science from UNESP (1988), Master in Ecology from UNICAMP (1992) and PhD in Ecology from the University of Cambridge, England (1998). Since 2011 I am part of the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Languages of Ribeirão Preto, USP, where I coordinate the Laboratory of Ecology and Conservation (LAEC). I am accredited as a full supervisor in the programs "Comparative Biology" (area: Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation) at FFCLRP/USP and "Applied Ecology" at ESALQ/USP (Piracicaba) and as a collaborator in the program "Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity" at UNESP, Rio Claro. Ecology applied to conservation, particularly involving Neotropical mammal species, is my main line of research interest. I am also a member of the IUCN Anteater, sloth and armadillo specialist group and the editorial board of the periodicals Tropical Conservation Science and Land. I act as an advisor for FAPESP, CNPq and several national and international journals. I was a DCR/CNPq Fellow at the Museu Mello Leitão between 1999 and 2001, a professor at the graduate program in Vertebrate Zoology and at the Biological Sciences course at PUC-Minas in Belo Horizonte between 2001 and 2011, and editor of the Bulletin of the Museu de Biologia Mello Leitão between 2001 and 2006. Since 2006 I am a CNPq productivity fellow (level 1D since 2017). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
