Roberto De Pasquale holds a PhD in Neurobiology, obtained in 2009 from the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa. He completed two postdoctoral fellowships in the United States, at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Chicago, and one postdoctoral fellowship at the University of São Paulo. Currently, he is a faculty member in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at the University of São Paulo. His research employs in vitro electrophysiological techniques to study synaptic transmission, neuronal excitability, and synaptic plasticity in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus. The goal is to understand the relationship between bioelectrical neuronal activity and brain functions such as cognition, emotional response, learning, and memory. His current research projects investigate the effects of serotonergic and purinergic modulation on excitatory and inhibitory transmission in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus.
