B. S in Mechanical Engineering at Univ. Estadual Paulista UNESP in 1979, MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics - ITA in 1983 and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of Campinas - UNICAMP in 1988. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Ghent University in 1989. He is currently a full professor at the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho, leader of the research group Fatigue and aeronautical materials, and a 1A research fellow at the National Council for Scientific (CNPq) and Technological Development. He was vice-rector (2005-2008) and dean (2009-2010) of Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, member of the Board of Trustees of Fundação Padre Anchieta from 2009 to 2014, Secretary of Education - Secretary of Education of the State of São Paulo from 2011 to 2015 and member of the Superior Council of the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (FAPESP) from 2009-2013. He has experience in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, with emphasis on Mechanical Properties of Metals and Alloys, working mainly on the following topics: high mechanical strength material, advanced composites, fatigue resistance, crack propagation and shot peening.
