Electrical Engineer from the Federal University of Goiás (1996), Master in Electrical Engineering from Unicamp (1998), PhD in Computer Engineering (2001) from Unicamp, MBA in Strategic Business Management from the Catholic University of Santos (2008) and Empretec from Sebrae-SP (2012). He was a Researcher or Visiting Professor at the following institutions: University of Kent in Canterbury (June 2001 to May 2002); Technological University of Malaysia (September 2005); FT-Unicamp (March to June 2012); and University of Salamanca (January to July 2014). He was a professor and researcher at the Master's Program in Computer Science at Unisantos from 2003 to 2007, and at the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Mackenzie from 2008 to 2022. His main research interests are Natural Computing and Machine Learning. He is also a member of the program committees of several national and international conferences and journals and has worked as a book reviewer for Springer-Verlag and Idea Group Publishing. Leandro N. de Castro is the lead author of the book Artificial Immune Systems: A New Computational Intelligence Approach (Springer-Verlag, 2002); one of the editors of Recent Developments in Biologically Inspired Computing (Idea Group Publishing, 2004); author of the CRC bestseller Fundamentals of Natural Computing: Basic Concepts, Algorithms, and Applications (CRC Press, 2006), author of the book Computação Natural: Uma Jornada Ilustrada (Livraria da Física, 2010), organizer of the book Nature-Inspired Computing Design, Development, and Application (IGI-Global, 2012) and co-author of the book "Introdução a Mineração de Dados: Conceitos Básicos, Algorithms e Aplicaçãos" (Saraiva, 2016). He was a proponent and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Natural Computing Research (IJNCR) between 2010 and 2015, published by IGI-Global. He has more than 250 articles published in national and international journals and conferences. He founded the Laboratory of Natural Computing and Machine Learning (LCoN) of the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Mackenzie. Between 2017 and 2020, he was Coordinator of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Mackenzie, leading the entire process of structuring and developing the university's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem. He is currently a Full Professor at Florida Gulf Coast University and Director of the DENDRTIC Institute (A Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Institute).
