Professor Emer Suavinho Ferro is a faculty member at ICB-USP, where he coordinates the Laboratory of Intracellular Peptides Pharmacology. His research focuses on peptides generated by intracellular proteolysis, whose functions have therapeutic potential. The group has identified bioactive peptides with effects on neuroprotection, energy metabolism, and modulation of the endocannabinoid system; examples such as hemopressin, NFKF, Pep5, Ric4, and Pep19 are documented in the scientific literature. Pep19 (DIIADDEPLT) is the first intracellular peptide with an approved therapeutic application for human and animal use, acting orally as a peripheral inverse agonist of the CB1 receptor. Several claims related to the therapeutic effects of Pep19 have already been validated by the FDA, supporting its safety and efficacy. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
