Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto (FMRP)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

He holds a degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto USP (FMRP-USP) (1976), a master's degree in 1982 and a doctorate in 1986, both in Clinical Medicine at FMRP-USP. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the Virginia Mason Research Center, in Seattle, in 1990 and 1991. He completed his professorship in 1997 and is currently a full professor in the Division of Clinical Immunology in the Department of Clinical Medicine at FMRP-USP. He has experience in the area of #8203;#8203;Medicine, in the subarea of #8203;#8203;Clinical Immunology, researching, teaching and caring for patients with diseases related to immune system disorders. Current lines of research are related to the study of the etiopathogenic aspects of autoimmune diseases, transplants, neoplastic and infectious diseases, focusing on assessments of differential and particular gene expression of candidate genes, polymorphisms of genes involved in the innate and acquired immune response, and also, association of genetic polymorphisms with gene expressions. He is particularly interested in studying the mechanisms that control promiscuous gene expression in thymic medullary cells (Autoimmune regulator-AIRE) and genes of the major histocompatibility complex. To understand the atomistic mechanisms involved in protein-protein, protein-peptide, protein-DNA interactions and imputation of immune system gene alleles, bioinformatics and artificial intelligence tools have been used. He supervises postgraduate students in the Basic and Applied Immunology Programs (CAPES 7) and Clinical Medicine (CAPES 7), both at FMRP-USP, having been coordinator of these two programs.Coordinates four doctoral training programs from foreign Universities (Institutionalized International Agreements) with: i) Universidad Central del Ecuador (around 50 students), ii) Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador (10 students), iii) Universities of Santander (Colombia, 5 students) and iv) University of Dyarbakir (Turkey), planned for a post-doctoral researcher). It has funding from national agencies, including CNPq (Produtividade 1A), FAPESP (doctoral scholarships, post-doctoral, main researcher in Thematic, INCTC/FAPESP and participates in CEPID) and binational funding, including CAPES/COFECUB (main researcher 2024-2028 ). President of the FMRP-USP International Relations Committee (CRInt).. In the extension, he coordinates the laboratory for typing class I and II histocompatibility genes for solid organ and hematopoietic cell transplants and participates in shifts for the distribution of organs, with the National Organ Procurement and Distribution Center of the State of São Paulo CNCDO-2.
