She holds a degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo, a Master's, Doctorate and a Post-Doctorate in Sociology from the same institution. She is a Productivity Researcher at the National Research Council - CNPQ, a Member of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo / ACIESP (2020) and, since 2005, a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (FFLCH / USP). Her research area includes research in the areas of: sociology of culture; social history of intellectuals, literature and the arts; sociology of mass communication; sociological theory. She was a senior researcher at the Institute of Social and Political Studies of São Paulo / IDESP (1987 - 2005), having participated in the project History of Social Sciences in Brazil. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Classical and Contemporary Sociological Theory, Sociology of Culture, and Brazilian Social Thought. She has trained more than 50 masters and doctors, and has also supervised undergraduate students and postdoctoral researchers. She holds and has held, among others, the following institutional positions: Vice-Rector of the University of São Paulo (2022-2026); Advisor to FAPESP (2024-present); Vice-President of the Observatory of Brazilian Institutions (2023-present); Coordinator of the USP Women's Office (2019-2022); President of the Association of Friends of the Museum of Contemporary Art of São Paulo/AAMAC (2019-2021); Director of the School of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo FFLCH/USP (2016-2020); Pro-Rector of Culture and University Extension of the University of São Paulo (2010-2015); Representative of the FFLCH Congregation on the University Council (2005-2008); Head of the Sociology Department (2005-2008); Executive Secretary of the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Social Sciences/ANPOCS (2000-2004); Representative of the Sociology Area at the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel/CAPES (1997-2001); Representative of the Human Sciences Area at the Scientific and Technical Council CTC/CAPES (1998-2001); Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Sociology at FFLCH/USP (1991-1996). She is a member of the Editorial Boards of journals in Brazil and abroad, and an advisor to research support agencies and national and international publishers. Among other academic distinctions, she was awarded the Jabuti Prize (2002), Honorable Mention, Essays Category, for the book Metropolis and Culture. São Paulo in the Mid-20th Century; ANPOCS Award for Academic Excellence Antônio Flávio Pierucci in Sociology (2014); Friend of the Book Award from the Center for Book and Publishing Studies/NELE (2018); Tribute from the Postgraduate Program in Sociology at the Federal University of Paraná/UFP (2015); Empress Leopoldina Cultural Medal, Historical and Geographical Institute of São Paulo (2012). As Coordinator of the USP Women's Office, she represented the University of São Paulo in the Impact 10x10x10 Project of the HeForShe Alliance, a coalition of ten international universities coordinated by UN Women.
