She holds a degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics, Business and Accounting of the University of São Paulo - FEA/USP and in Social Communication from the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo - ECA-USP. She holds a PhD in Economic Theory from the Institute of Economic Research of the University of São Paulo - IPE/USP (1992). She is a senior professor at the Department of Economics of FEA-USP. From December 2017 to November 2019 she was a visiting researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies in Democracy, Development and Sustainability (NEEDS) of the Federal University of ABC (UFABC) and a professor in the postgraduate program in World Political Economy at the same institution. She is a CNPq researcher (Research Productivity scholarship holder nivel 1D) and since August 2024 she has been a member of the advisory committee for the Economics area of #8203;#8203;the same institution. She regularly publishes in national and international journals in the area of #8203;#8203;economics and other areas of the Human Sciences. Her work focuses on Political Economy and Marxism, Economic Methodology, History of Economic Ideas, Brazilian Economy, and Social Accounting. She wrote the chapter on Money in The Oxford Handbook of Karl Marx, published in 2019. From 2004 to 2008, she was president of the Brazilian Society of Political Economy (SEP). From January 2013 to March 2015, she was municipal secretary of planning, budget, and management for the City of São Paulo. She has been editor-in-chief of the SEP Journal since May 2022.
