Hugo Abi Karam holds a Bachelor's degree (1990), a Master's degree (1995), and a Doctorate (2002) in Meteorology from the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of São Paulo (IAG/USP). He was a FAPESP postdoctoral fellow at IAG/USP (2004-2006), including a research internship at Météo-France in Toulouse, France, in 2004. Since 2006, he has been a professor in the Department of Meteorology at the Institute of Geosciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He has held various academic positions, including: first Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Meteorology at IGEO-UFRJ (2009-2010 and 2011-2012), Head of the Meteorology Department at IGEO-CCMN/UFRJ (2017-2019), and Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Meteorology (2024-2025). Between 2010 and 2024, he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Meteorology. Currently, he continues to act as reviewer and author of articles in different scientific journals. His area of #8203;#8203;expertise lies within Geosciences, with an emphasis on Atmospheric Sciences and Risk Analysis. His main research and teaching interests include advanced computational modeling, hydrometeorology, urban climatology, applications of weather radar, advective nowcasting of severe storms, modeling and assessment of hydrometeorological risks (landslides in...). slopes, floods) on realistic terrain, multi-risk analysis, surface and subsurface hydrological processes, variational assimilation of data, precipitation estimated by satellite sensors (Hydroestimator/NOAA).
