Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Escola de Engenharia de Lorena (EEL)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Dr. André Lopes earned a B.S. (2004) in Biology at São Paulo State University (UNESP, Brazil), and an M.S. (2006) and Ph.D. (2010) in Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil). His Ph.D. thesis focused on upstream and downstream processes for the application of bioproducts related to human health. More specifically, through biotechnological processes for obtaining biomolecules via genetically modified or unmodified microbial sources and their extraction/purification by high and low-resolution processes. During the last years, his research is focused on nanobiotechnology, particularly regarding drug delivery systems with the incorporation of therapeutics (e.g., biopharmaceuticals, biomolecules, and drugs) in nanostructures, such as polymeric micelles, polymersomes, polymeric scaffolds, among others. Dr. Lopes was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of São Paulo (2012 and 2014), and at the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA, USA) under the supervision of Prof. Daniel T. Kamei (2016). He was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Bioprocess and Biotechnology at the São Paulo State University (2018).Currently, Dr. Lopes is a Professor at the Lorena School of Engineering - University of São Paulo (EEL/USP, Brazil). His research project is related to the co-encapsulation of antineoplastic drugs in polymersomes for cancer therapy.
