ALRO has been a Full Professor at the Institute of Biology of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) since 2016. He graduated in Biological Sciences from Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) in 1993, and obtained his master's degree in Cell Biology and his doctorate in Cell Biology from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) in 1996 and 1999, respectively. He is the coordinator of the Laboratory of Nerve Regeneration at the Institute of Biology / UNICAMP. His research focuses on the regeneration of the CNS and PNS after injury and repair, with an emphasis on synaptic plasticity and glial responses. He is particularly interested in the survival of spinal motor neurons after proximal lesions and during the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
