Guilherme Amaral Luz

Guilherme Amaral Luz is a professor at the Institute of History at the Federal University of Uberlândia-MG (UFU). He coordinates, at the institution, the laboratory "Martial Paths, Humanities and Integral Education" (EDUCAM) and integrates the research group and extension program "SOMA: Transdisciplinary Actions", on somaesthetics and studies on corporeality in multiple epistemological perspectives. He holds a Master's and a PhD in History from Unicamp (Campinas, SP), with a post-doctorate in Art History developed at the University of Warwick (Coventry, GB). His area of #8203;#8203;academic training is Modern History, with an emphasis on the religious expansion of the Counter-Reformation inside and outside Europe. In recent years, he has dedicated himself to the study of Asian martial arts (especially Chinese and Japanese) in their processes of "modernization" and "world diffusion" in the 20th century, investigating, mainly, their spiritual aesthetics in tune with different expressions of "modernity", whether at local/regional or global levels. He develops extension projects involving martial arts and integral education, in their interfaces with the teaching of history. He is a permanent professor and member of the Local Academic Commission of ProfHistória, a national stricto sensu postgraduate program in History Teaching, which has UFU as one of its associated institutions.
