The main objective of this scientific initiation project is to study rocks collected in the Lavra Boca Rica, located in Galileia, Minas Gerais, characterizing its main constituent minerals and deepening the studies on the occurrences of rare phosphates and oxalates previously identified in these rocks but not fully described in the literature of region. In Brazil there are several incompletely studied rare-earth elements-bearing rocks, such as the alkaline rocks of Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais, where some new minerals have been described and others are under study. Detailed mineralogical study (chemical and crystallographic) of these and other rocks of Brazilian occurrence is intended to be performed. (AU)

The rocks of the Poços de Caldas Alkaline Complex contain many rare minerals, some of them rich in rare earth elements.
