He received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Telecommunications from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1987, where he also earned his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1989. In 1994, he completed his Ph.D. at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London, conducting research on algorithms for noise reduction in automatic speech recognition. From 1995 to 2000, he was a faculty member at the Polytechnic School of USP. In 2001, he worked at Nuance Communications, a leading company in speech recognition systems, which was later acquired by Microsoft in 2021. From 2002 to 2005, he served as a visiting professor in the master's program of the Department of Computer Science at the Federal University of Amazonas. During the same period, from 2002 to 2009, he worked as a senior researcher on the speech recognition team at Genius Institute of Technology. Between 2021 and 2023, he led a research team at the artificial intelligence laboratory of Samsung Research Brazil (SRBR). From 2023 to 2024, at SENAI-SP, he developed a short course in quantum computing, operated a 3-qubit quantum computer based on magnetic resonance, and contributed to the Data Science Technology undergraduate program. Since 2009, he has been an associate professor at Centro Universitário FEI, and since 2024, he has worked as a senior researcher on the AI team at SRBR. His main research interests include speech and biomedical signal processing, biometrics, and machine learning. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
