Larissa Alves de Lira

Larissa Alves de Lira is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Brazilian Studies on a FAPESP grant. She was a visiting assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, associated with the Giovanni Arrighi Center for Global Studies laboratory in 2023 and 2024. She holds a doctorate from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, Paris) and the University of São Paulo, under an international double degree agreement, a master's degree in Human Geography from USP and a bachelor's degree in Geography from USP. She completed her first post-doctoral internship at the Geography Department of the University of São Paulo. She was a visiting professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais between 2019 and 2021. She is an associate member of the Geographies-Cités Laboratory, EHGO team (history and epistemology of Geography), Panthéon-Sorbonne University, CNRS, Université de Paris and EHESS, Paris, France. He conducts research into the history and epistemology of geography, the history and epistemology of geo-history, geo-economics, geopolitics and Brazil's place in global studies. She has given several lectures and presentations in Brazil and abroad, mainly in France, Germany and the United States. She is the author of the books "O Mediterrâneo de Vidal de la Blache: o primeiro esboço do métodos geográficos (1852-1918)", "Pierre Monbeig a a Formação da Geografia no Brasil: uma geo-história dos saberes (1925-1957)" and co-organizer of the book "Geografias das ciências, dos saberes e da história da Geografia". She was awarded an honorable mention by LASA - Latin American Studies Association - in the category of best humanities book published on Brazil in 2021, for her book on Pierre Monbeig.
