Joana Zylbersztajn is a human rights lawyer who graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP, 2003), where she also got her degree as a social communication specialist (2007). She holds a master's and a doctorate in constitutional law from the University of São Paulo (USP, 2008; 2012), addressing individual freedoms and collisions of fundamental rights. While her master's degree discussed freedom of expression and media regulation, the doctorate dealt with religious freedom and secularism. She is the author of the book "A Laicidade do Estado Brasileiro" (Brazilian secularism) (2015).Joana worked in a civil society organization, with human rights education and advocacy (CDH, 2002-2008), in addition to holding positions in the Brazilian federal government (SEDH/PR, 2008-2010; SG/PR, 2011-2012) and the São Paulo Cityhall (SMDHC, 2013-2014). At the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of American States (IACHR-OAS, 2017-2020), Joana was the primary advisor to the Commissioners and coordinated the session responsible for precautionary and provisional measures. In the private sector, he worked as institutional relations manager for Natura Cosméticos and Natura Co (2014-2017, 2020-2021).Joana is currently co-founder of the consultancy Veredas - Human Rights Strategies; professor and professional mentor of the Insper - Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa (Insper Institute of Education and Research); member of the Comissão Arns (Arns Commission); and member of the Third Sector Law Commission of the OAB/SP.Experience in human rights, fundamental rights, constitutional rights, international rights, freedom of expression and media regulation, religious freedom, and secularism.
