Maria Carolina Pedro Athié

Holds a Bachelor's and a Teaching degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Campinas (2006), a Master's degree in Biology (Genetics) from the University of São Paulo (2010), and a Ph.D. in Functional and Molecular Biology (Physiology) from the University of Campinas (2016). Works in the fields of Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Physiology, and Genetics, with an emphasis on Neurophysiology and Human and Medical Genetics. Has experience in the following topics: neurodevelopment, neurodegeneration and neurodegenerative diseases, differential gene and protein expression, NGS data analysis, and identification of molecular markers for disease predisposition. Since 2023, has been part of the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio) at the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), where she worked with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to develop 2D and 3D human neural cell models and to investigate factors that influence or affect stages of neurodevelopment, as well as applications in bioimaging.
