José Lira is Full Professor at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of São Paulo, teaching both in the Undergraduate and Graduate programs. He was appointed Visiting Research Scholar and Visiting Professor at Princeton University's Program in Latin American Studies and Princeton School of Architecture (Fall 2022/23), where he collaborated with the Graduate Program. He is currently the Director of the University of Sao Paulo's MariAntonia Cultural Center. He is the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in the University of São Paulo. He has degrees in Architecture and Urban Planning (Federal University of Pernambuco, 1984-1989) and Philosophy (University of Sao Paulo, 1992-1999). He holds a PhD (Capes/Fapesp, 1997) and a PD Dissertation (2008) from FAU-USP. He has also undertaken post-doctorate researches at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (Capes, 2009), and at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Malaquais (Fapesp, 2015). He was the director of the Center for Cultural Preservation (2010-2014), and of Maria Antonia Cultural Center (2022-2024), both at the University of Sao Paulo. He has been engaged in several research projects, acting as full advisor in the Masters and Phd programs at FAU-USP. He authored "O Visível e o Invisível na Arquitetura Brasileira"(DBA, 2017); "Warchavchik: Fraturas da Vanguarda" (Cosac Naify, 2011); and co-edited "Domesticidade, Gênero e Cultura Material" (Edusp/CPC, 2017), "Patrimônio construído da USP: políticas de proteção, gestão e memória" (Edusp/CPC, 2014), "Memória Trabalho e Arquitetura" (Edusp/CPC, 2013), "História e Cultura Estudantil/ as revistas na USP" (Edusp/ CPC, 2012), "São Paulo, os estrangeiros e a construção das Cidades" (Alameda, 2010), "Tempo, Cidade e Arquitetura" (FAU-USP/ Annablume, 2007), "Cidade: impasses e perspectivas" (FAU-USP/ Annablume, 2007), "Caminhos da Arquitetura", de Vilanova Artigas (Cosac Naify, 4th edition, 2004).
