Associate Professor at the Department of Pathology, Division of Clinical Pathology, School of Medical Sciences, and at the Hematology and Hemotherapy Center of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). She is also a Visiting Professor at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), the Netherlands. She is a medical doctor, graduated from the School of Medical Sciences of UNICAMP, where she completed the Residency in Haematology and Haemotherapy and both the Masters and PhD in Clinical Medicine. Fernanda also holds a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology from the LUMC. Throughout her research career, Fernanda has been active in the study of biomarkers and clinical aspects of thromboembolic and hemorrhagic diseases. She has been awarded various training, travel and reach the world grants from the American Society of Hematology and the International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis. Fernanda has also received research grants from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the Brazilian National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) to develop studies in the field of antiphospholipid syndrome and thrombosis. Fernanda is the Brazilian representative in the Latin American Cooperative Group of Hemostasis and Thrombosis (CLAHT). Her research focuses on the interaction between coagulation and inflammation/immunity in venous thrombosis and severe thrombotic diseases. Fernanda is currently working on: 1) the importance of cardiovascular risk factors as a secondary stimulus for the occurrence of thrombosis in antiphosphlipid syndrome; 2) the impairment of innate immunity and neutrophils in venous thrombosis and primary antiphosphlipid syndrome; 3) the impairment of regulatory T lymphocytes in primary antiphosphlipid syndrome; 4) the effects of hydroxycloroquine in modulating haemostasis; 5) the importance of tissue factor activity and cell microparticles in different thrombotic presentations of antiphosphlipid syndrome.
