João holds a PhD in Crop Science from Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture - ESALQ/USP, where he has been actively involved in research since his undergraduate studies, focusing on plant ecophysiology and nutrition, cover crops, regenerative agriculture, and agroecosystem management and resilience. His academic journey includes a FAPESP-funded bachelor's project on soybean nitrogen metabolism (2015, ESALQ/USP); a master's degree exploring Urochloa (brachiaria) phosphorus mobilization and its intercrop with coffee (2020, ESALQ/USP); and a doctoral dissertation on the performance of tropical cover crop mixtures (2025, ESALQ/USP). In the USA (2022-2023), he collaborated as a research scholar at Dean Lee Research Station LSU AgCenter, Louisiana State University and the University of Missouri - MU, contributing to advancements in sugarcane and soybeans ecophysiology, genotype-by-environment interactions, and multi-environment trial analysis. João also collaborates with private companies as a scientific consultant, applying his expertise in experimental design, statistical analysis, and sustainable agriculture.
