Danilo Nazareno Azevedo Baraúna

I am a queer academic researcher, lecturer, independent curator, and visual artist, currently working as the British Academy International Fellow at Newcastle University. I hold a PhD in Fine Art from The Glasgow School of Art, fully funded by CAPES Foundation Brazilian Ministry of Education. My interdisciplinary research concerns the fields of queer studies (ecological, decolonial, and affective approaches) and artists moving image theory and criticism, with a particular interest in LGBTQIAPN+ art, and cultural production from the Brazilian Amazon. Throughout the years, my research and public engagement projects attracted funding from Brazilian and international public organizations such as The British Academy, Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq), CAPES Foundation Brazilian Ministry of Education, São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), Amazon Research Foundation (FAPESPA), Federal University of Pará (UFPA), and Pará Cultural Foundation. I worked as FAPESP Postdoctoral Research Fellow at São Paulo State University (UNESP), and in 2023, I was a CAPES Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Federal University of Pará. Prizes and awards include: XVI Art in School Prize (2015) in the category Secondary School; Best Undergraduate Research in the Arts at UFPA (2011); PROEX Art and Culture Awards (2010 and 2011) in the category Art Education. I hold a Masters Degree in Media and Audiovisual Processes from the University of São Paulo (USP), with a four-month research exchange at the University of Glasgow (UK), fully funded by FAPESP, and a BA in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). I have curated screening events and exhibitions in Brazil, Argentina, and the United Kingdom, as well as participated in exhibitions and public screenings in cities such as Glasgow, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belém, Manaus, Macapá, Ouro Preto, Salvador. My main professional experiences are as follows: Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Glasgow School of Art, delivering lectures and workshops, as well as supervising dissertations; Cultural Programmer of the Culture and Community Centre SESC São Paulo, elaborating, curating, producing and assessing projects in the fields of Film Video and Art Technology, as well as supervising a team of three art teachers in the non-formal educational Space of Arts Technology; Art Teacher the Federal University of Pará Primary and Secondary School; and Associated lecturer for the National Program for the Continuing Education of Teachers (PARFOR/CAPES/UFPA), teaching in the BA Visual Arts.
