She earned a degree in Dentistry from the Federal University of Bahia (1997), and a master's and PhD in Dentistry (Oral Diagnosis) from the University of São Paulo (2001 and 2005, respectively). She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School University of São Paulo (20062008), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Norma Tiraboschi Foss, during which she studied the relationship between chronic oral infections and the progression of leprosy, with an emphasis on reactional episodes. She completed a second postdoctoral fellowship at Brigham and Womens Hospital Harvard Medical School (20122013), under the supervision of Prof. Drs. Nathaniel Simon Treister and George Francis Murphy, focusing on the immunopathological aspects of chronic graft-versus-host disease of the oral cavity. She joined the faculty in 2014 and is currently an Associate Professor at FORP-USP. She is a faculty member in the graduate programs in Periodontology at FORP-USP and in Oral Diagnosis, Oral Radiology and Imaging at FO-USP. She served as Vice Head of the Department of Stomatology, Public Health and Forensic Dentistry (20202022), and is currently (20232026) Vice-Coordinator of the Research Ethics Committee at FORP-USP. Her research interests in the field of Stomatology include: the pathophysiology of infectious diseases, the study of oral manifestations of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, primary and secondary prevention strategies for oral cancer, and dental management of patients with systemic diseases.
