Professor in the Department of Cultural Anthropology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology at UFRJ. He is also an affiliated researcher in the Graduate Program in Anthropology at Unicamp. A Productivity Fellow of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), a Young Scientist of Our State (FAPERJ), and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, he coordinates the research group Passagens (IFCS/UFRJ).He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), with a doctoral research stay at the University of California, San Diego (USA). He completed postdoctoral research at Leipzig University (Germany) and at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Utrecht University (Netherlands). He has also been a visiting scholar at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), the University of Coimbra (Portugal), CIESAS/Guadalajara (Mexico), and the ICSOR International Center for the Sociology of Religion (Italy).He writes for the newspaper Folha de São Paulo. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of Latin American Religions (Springer), co-editor of the Handbook on Religions and Cities in the World (Palgrave Macmillan), and editor of the series Antropologias do Mundo (Imprensa da Universidade de Coimbra). He also serves as associate editor of the journals Sociologia Antropologia, Debates do NER, and PLOS ONE, and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Mana.He served as president of the Association of Social Sciences of Religion in the Mercosur (ACSRM, 20182022) and was a member of the Book Editorial Committee of the Brazilian Anthropological Association (ABA). He is the author of books published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, including Do espírito na saúde (2018), Espiritualidade Incorporada (2022), and Uma Encruzilhada Modernista (2023).
