In this project we aim to study elliptic problems involving the mean curvature operator, through an elliptic regularization process. Such an approach has been used by some authors, in actual and interesting works. Still, we aim to give an original contribution to the literature in this field, by the study of the existence of nontrivial solutions to capillary problems.
In this project, we propose the study of the Variational Methods applied to elliptic partial differential equations. We believe that the development of such a project enriches the mathematical background of the student, as well as gives him the basis to follow with his graduate studies.
In this project, we propose an introductory study of the main results of Functional Analysis. At first, the student will study several topics of Metric Spaces, which will serve as a subsidy to be able to progress in the study of Functional Analysis topics. In this project we propose the study of questions on existence of solutions of elliptic problems by using topological methods, like sub-super solutions, bifurcation arguments and index theory. More specifically, we aim to complement the mathematical formation of the student, by introducing topological methods to deal with problems involving the mean-curvature operator.
