Thaís holds a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2009) and a Ph.D. (2016) in Ecology and Natural Resources from the Federal University of São Carlos. She completed postdoctoral training at the Phycology Laboratory UFSCar (2017, 20192023), at the University of DuisburgEssen (20212022), and at AixMarseille University (20232024). Her research experience includes morphological taxonomy, molecular phylogeny, and phylogeography of freshwater green microalgae (Selenastraceae); cultivation and axenic isolation of freshwater microalgae; chemotaxonomy of freshwater microalgae; and algal virology. She is currently a Visiting Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the State University of Santa Cruz Ilhéus, affiliated with the Graduate Program in Tropical Aquatic Systems (PPGSAT). She teaches the courses Biology and Systematics of Cryptogams in the undergraduate Biological Sciences program, and Aquatic Botany and Phytoplankton Ecology in the graduate program.
