A graduate in Dentistry (UFRGS, 2000-2003) and holding a Ph.D. in Sciences - Cell and Tissue Biology (USP, 2004-2008), he received an honorable mention in the CAPES Thesis Award (2009 - Biological Sciences I). He completed a sandwich doctorate (University of Virginia, USA, 2007-2008) and postdoctoral research (USP, 2008-2009; University of Virginia 2014-2015-CAPES).Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Morphological Sciences, Director of CREAL (Center for Reproduction and Experimentation of Laboratory Animals), President of the Brazilian Society of Cell Biology (SBBC, 2020-2022), permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Dentistry (Master's and Doctorate, CAPES = 6), and a collaborator in the Postgraduate Program in Physiology (Master's and Doctorate, CAPES = 5) and the Postgraduate Program in Pharmacology and Therapeutics (Doctorate, CAPES = 5).He served as Vice-Director of the Institute of Basic Health Sciences at UFRGS for two terms (2017-2021; 2021-2025); a member of the Steering Council of the Zenit Technology Park at UFRGS (2018-2024); and coordinator of the Premium program at Propesq-UFRGS (2021-2022).He conducts outreach activities in cell biology with high school students and teachers. He was the Institutional Coordinator of the UFRGS-Novos Talentos Program (CAPES 033/2010 to 2013) and a project coordinator for the FAPERGS-PICMEL public notice aimed at training basic education teachers and students. He coordinated the UAB/CAPES specialization course "Ciência é 10!" (www.ufrgs.br/c10), directed at teachers of the final years of elementary school. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he served as vice-coordinator of the outreach action "Diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 by RT-qPCR in clinical samples," which performed 145,000 tests in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.He has experience in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, morphology, confocal microscopy and live imaging.Areas of Interest: 1- Cell migration and signaling in two- and three-dimensional models; 2- Cell migration models applied to the analysis of tumors of oral origin; 3- cell migration models for the identification of bioactive peptides; 4- analysis of cell migration proteins as biomarkers of tumor progression; 5- analysis of the role of the metabolic state on cell migration. He acts as a researcher and member of the management council of INCT 3D Models (www.inctmodels3d.com.br), in addition to being a researcher and vice-coordinator of INCT Translational Biophotonics applied to Dentistry (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
