Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação (FEEC) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering with the Department of Electronics and Biomedical Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil). He is the current Coordinator of the Electrical Engineering Graduate Program. Former Director (2017-2023) and Co-Director (2023-2025) of the Center for Biomedical Engineering, UNICAMP. Founder and head of the Neural Engineering Research Laboratory (NER Lab). His research in neural engineering focuses on theoretical/computational and experimental investigations that aim to understand how different neuromusculoskeletal system elements interact during normal and pathological control of human movement. Also, based on basic research, his group designs new technologies for motor neurorehabilitation of neurological patients and amputees. Dr. Elias received the BS in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Goias (Brazil) in 2008, and the MS and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of São Paulo (Brazil) in 2010 and 2013, respectively. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Biomedical Engineering Lab, University of São Paulo (2013-2015), and a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Neurorehabilitation Engineering, Georg-August University (Goettingen, Germany, 2015). He has Habilitation ("privatdozent") in Biomedical Engineering from UNICAMP (2022). He is a member of the International MotoNeuron Society, IEEE + IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science, and Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer of the Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering and a member of the Board of Reviewing Editors of the eLife journal. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
