Birthplace: Brazil

Dr. Renato Sousa Lima is a researcher at the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (LNNano/CNPEM), Coordinator of the Diagnostic Subprogram of the CNPEM Health PD Program, and Visiting Professor in the following Postgraduate Programs: IQ/UNICAMP, IQSC/USP, and NMA/UFABC. He has a bachelors degree in Industrial Chemistry from UFPB (2003-2008), a master's degree (2008-2010) and a doctorate (2010-2013) in Sciences from IQSC/USP, and a post-doctorate from UNICAMP (2014-2015) and Clemson University/USA (2023-2024). Throughout his postgraduate studies, he worked in the area of Chemistry, with an emphasis on electrochemistry, micro/nanofabrication, and microfluidics for chemical analysis. He leads a research group that seeks to address the following problem: performing accessible, easy-to-implement (in laboratories or at the point of need), high-throughput, and accurate chemical analyses in the areas of environment and health. To this end, the group's mission is to deploy solutions in devices for generating electrochemical sensors carrying the attributes mentioned above. His actuation areas are (i) device fabrication (micro/nanofabrication and alternative methods), (ii) use of nano/materials (such as thin films and nanostructured microstructures), (iii) investigation of surface phenomena at the nanoscale, (iv) microfluidics, and (v) machine learning. The researcher has completed the supervision of 4 master's and 2 doctoral degrees, is a reviewer for several journals, and is the author of more than 60 scientific articles in journals with strict editorial policies, such as Analytical Chemistry, ACS Sensors, ACS Applied Materials Interfaces, ACS Nano, and Advanced Healthcare Materials.
