Researcher at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH) of USP, he is Principal Investigator of the Researcher Project GReCo (Research Group on Renaissance and Contemporary Music - FAPESP No. 2014/15570-0). He carried out postdoctoral research at the Institute of Arts of the University of Uberlândia and at the School of Communications and Arts of USP with grants from CNPq and FAPESP, respectively. He is an interpreter of music from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, as well as contemporary music, and an improviser. He holds a PhD in Music from the University of East Anglia (2008), England with the thesis The Discourse of Free Improvisation. He studied for a Bachelor of Music in São Paulo (1991). In 1998, he obtained the Diploma of Soloist from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Netherlands, the highest degree of training offered by this institution. He was a visiting professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (2001-2004). He regularly works with electronic means for musical performance. Between 1996 and 2000, he developed, together with the Institute of Sonology of the Hague Conservatory, and with the support of the Virtuose grant from the Ministry of Culture, a contrabass flute with which it is possible to process live sounds (the e-recorder). His work with composers has yielded 10 new works for the recorder. In 2009, he recorded a CD with recorder duos with maestro Ricardo Kanji, which won the Recording Award for an Unreleased Record from the Cultural Action Program (PROAC) of the Secretariat of Culture of the State of São Paulo. From 2003 to 2010, he was a recorder professor at the Oficina Internacional de Música de Curitiba. He has also participated as a teacher at the Semana de Música Antiga da UFMG and in several editions of the Festival de Música Colonial Brasileira e Música Antiga de Juiz de Fora, MG. With the e-recorder, he performed concerts with Richard Barrett, Evan Parker, Jonathan Impett, Paul Dunmall, Simon Rose, among others. He participated in concerts and recordings as a member of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Ton Koopman. As a researcher, he supervised projects and presented works at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Netherlands, the University of California at San Diego, the University of California at Santa Barbara, the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, Ithaca College in New York (United States), the Centro Mexicano para la Música y Artes Sonoras (CMMAS), and several universities in Brazil.Villavicencios performances have been presented by Steim in Amsterdam, Metronom in Barcelona, Logos in Ghent, FIU in Miami, Sonorities Festival in Belfast, CPFL in São Paulo, Festival Campos do Jordão in São Paulo, WORM in Rotterdam, Felix Meritis in Amsterdam, among other places. He has played in baroque orchestras under the conduction of William Christie and Ton Koopman. As a researcher, he has conducted workshops and projects at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Netherlands, the University of California San Diego, the University of California Santa Barbara, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Ithaca College in New York, USA, at the Centro Mexicano para la Música y Artes Sonoras (CMMAS) and at several Brazilian universities.
