Dr. Elgui de Oliveira has a major in Biomedical Sciences (1997) from the School of Biosciences of Botucatu (IBB), São Paulo State University (UNESP), and a PhD degree in Pathology from Medical School of Botucatu (2002), UNESP. Fully dedicated to teaching and research at UNESP, he is professor of pathology at the Medical School of Botucatu (FMB), and researcher at the Institute of Biotechnology (IBTEC). He has expertise in human pathology, with focus on oncology and molecular pathology; his major areas of research are cancer biology, viral carcinogenesis, and environmental carcinogenesis. Other areas of interest include education for biosciences & healthcare careers, entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as information technologies (IT) applied to education, research, and technological development. Dr. Elgui de Oliveira has attended trainings in world-class institutions in North America, including Children's & Women?s Hospital / University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC, Canada; 2004); Texas Children?s Hospital / Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX, USA; 2005); Hillman Cancer Center / University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, PA, USA; 2006), Weill Medical College / Cornell University (WMCCU; New York, NY, USA; 2007), and the Whitehead Institute / Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA, USA; 2012). He is the principal investigator of the Viral Carcinogenesis and Cancer Biology Research Group (ViriCan - http://ViriCan.net) since its foundation, in 2002.
