Dr. Elgui de Oliveira received a Biomedical Sciences degree from the Institute of Biosciences of Botucatu (1997) at the São Paulo State University "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (UNESP). He earned a PhD in Pathology from the Botucatu Medical School (FMB; 2002), UNESP, and completed postdoctoral studies at Weill Cornell Medical College, USA (2008-2009). He currently holds a full-time position at UNESP, serving as a faculty member in the Department of Pathology at FMB since 2003 and as a researcher at the UNESP Institute of Biotechnology since 2015. His expertise is in Human Pathology, with an emphasis on Oncology and Molecular Pathology. His research focuses on cancer biology, viral carcinogenesis, and environmental carcinogenesis. He has undertaken short-term research fellowships at various international institutions, including: Children's Women's Hospital / University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC, Canada; 2004); Texas Children's Hospital / Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX, USA; 2005); Hillman Cancer Center / University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, PA, USA; 2006); Weill Medical College / Cornell University (New York, NY, USA; 2007; 2008-2009); and the Whitehead Institute / Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA, USA; 2012). He is the Coordinator and Principal Investigator of the Viral Carcinogenesis and Cancer Biology Study Group (ViriCan - http://virican.net) since its foundation, in 2002.
