Ricardo holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at the University of São Paulo (ICMC/USP). In 2020, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at ICMC/USP, and since 2014, he has been a professor at the Institute of Computing at the Federal University of Bahia (IC/UFBA), serving as an advisor in the graduate program in Computer Science (PGCOMP) and coordinating the CInO (Computational Intelligence and Optimization Research Lab) research group and the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. His research areas include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Signal Processing. In recent years, Ricardo has received significant recognitions, such as the Best Paper Award at the IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems and the Google Latin America Award in 2021. Ricardo is a Senior Member of IEEE and has served as an author, and reviewer of scientific articles in relevant conferences and journals in his research field. Currently, he also serves as an editor for the scientific journals Digital Signal Processing (Elsevier), Journal of Data Science and Analytics (Springer), and Expert Systems with Applications (Elsevier). In addition to coordinating several projects funded by national and international research agencies, Ricardo is a research productivity fellow from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. Ricardo has software registrations with the National Institute of Industrial Property and has published various Artificial Intelligence models and datasets related to signal processing and medical images. Finally, Ricardo has been directly involved in projects with industry, seeking advancements in the process of transferring technology from the university to society. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
