Bernardo Fonseca Machado

I am a Brazilian anthropologist with a diverse academic and professional journey. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo in 2008. Subsequently, I pursued my passion for anthropology by completing a Master's degree in Social Anthropology at the same institution in 2012. Building on this foundation, I furthered my academic pursuits and earned a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of São Paulo in 2018. In 2019, I embarked on a postdoctoral research journey within the Department of Social Anthropology at the State University of Campinas. My commitment to academia extends to collaboration, as I serve as a faculty member in the Graduate Program at the Foundation School of Sociology and Politics (FESP). Additionally, I contribute to the field as a faculty member in the Professional Master's Program in Performing Arts at the Célia Helena School of Arts. My teaching experience includes a stint as a substitute professor of anthropology at the Federal University of Goiás in the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2018 to 2019. Broadening my horizons, I undertook an international experience as a Visiting Student Research Collaborator at the Department of Anthropology at Princeton University in the United States from 2015 to 2016. From 2021 to 2022, I actively contributed to the field as a member of the Editorial Commission for Scientific Books at the Brazilian Association of Anthropology. My research interests encompass social markers of difference, the anthropology of expressive forms, gender studies, and the history of Brazilian theater. To support and advance these research interests, I am a dedicated member of several research groups, including Etnohistória (USP, 2009-present), NUMAS (Núcleo dos Marcadores Sociais da Diferença - USP, 2013-present), and APSA (Unicamp, 2019-present).
