He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of São Paulo (1985), a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of São Paulo (1990) and a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (1995). He is currently a Full Professor at the University of São Paulo. He became a Livre-Docente in Biomechanical Engineering in November 2009. He has experience in the field of Biomedical Engineering, with an emphasis on Medical Engineering, working mainly on the following topics: Electrical Impedance Tomography, Structural Dynamics, Biomechanics, Parameter Estimation, Inverse Problems, and Lung Monitoring. He coordinated in Brazil the NIH/Colorado State/Poli the subcontract G-4553-1, Exploratory Innovations in Electrical Impedance Tomography, from 2013 to 2015 and coordinated in Brazil the subcontract G-86411-01 between NIH/Colorado State/Poli from 2017 to 2021. He coordinated at USP the CAPES Biomechanics Network on Muscle Contraction at USP from 2012 to 2014. He coordinated the Philips/Poli/FDTE agreement on Electrical Impedance Tomography for bedside lung monitoring from 2011 to 2012. He coordinated the Graduate Programme in Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic School of USP from August 2012 to August 2016. He is responsible for solving inverse problems in Electrical Impedance Tomography technology and is co-founder of Timpel S.A., equipment that monitors the lungs at the bedside and helps optimise pulmonary ventilation. He was president of the Postgraduate Commission of the Polytechnic School of USP from 2016 to 2019. He was deputy head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic School of USP from 2016 to 2019 and head from 2019 to 2021. He has been Coordinator of the Ethics and Human Rights Commission at EPUSP since November 2016. He was Honoured Professor of the Year 2020 by AEP, the Association of Engineers of the Polytechnic School, and Technology Personality 2020 in Health by the Union of Engineers of the State of São Paulo. He is currently Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Coordinator of the INSPIRE Project together with Prof. Marcelo Zuffo. He received the Armando Sales Oliveira Medal, awarded by USP in 2021. He is currently Deputy Provost on Innovation at USP. As Deputy Provost, he participates in the FIESP Council for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, the OECD's EECOLE, and represents USP in the formation of the São Paulo Innovation District. Together with Prof. Célia Garcia, organized the USP Postdoctoral Congresses in 2023 and 2025. He is president of LARSEC, the Latin American Research Security Consortium. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
