Milton Kampel

He has a degree in Oceanography from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1988), a master's degree in Remote Sensing from the National Institute for Space Research (1993), a doctorate in Oceanography (Biological Oceanography) from the University of São Paulo (2003) and a post-doctorate at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Canada (2005). He is currently a Full Researcher at the National Institute for Space Research, Head of the Institutional Relations Service of the Institute's Directorate, working in the Earth Observation Coordination. He is a member of the Board of INPE's postgraduate programme in remote sensing (CAPES 7), professor responsible for the Introduction to Remote Sensing and Remote Sensing of Climate courses and supervisor of post-doctoral, doctoral, master's and undergraduate students. He was Head of the Remote Sensing Division and Substitute Earth Observation Coordinator (2008-2013). He is a member of the São José dos Campos Municipal Council for Urban Development. He was a member of the SJC Municipal Environment Council (2004-2010) and the SJC Municipal Council for the Preservation of Historical, Artistic, Landscape and Cultural Heritage (2004-2008). He is a member of the Deliberative Council of the Brazilian Oceanography Association, having been Director of the São Paulo Regional Section (2009-2016). Decorated with the Honour of Cartographic Merit in the rank of Officer by the Brazilian Cartographic Society (2010). Member of the National Council for the Decade of the Oceans, Brazil. Member of the Scientific Committee of the FAPESP Programme for the South Atlantic and Antarctica (PROASA). He develops applications of remote sensing and geotechnologies in Oceanography and the Environment, mainly in the following areas: Water/ocean colour, Monitoring of marine ecosystems, Monitoring of continental, coastal and oceanic aquatic systems, Primary productivity, Phytoplankton biomass, Analysis of surface temperature and wind fields at the sea surface, Study of mangroves and coral reefs, Estimation of offshore wind energy, among others.
