He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Campinas/UNICAMP (1980) and master's (1989) and Ph.D. (1992) in Mathematics Education by the University of East Anglia and Cambridge University/England, respectively. He is currently a Professor at the Federal University of São Carlos, Sorocaba Campus. Acts in the area of teacher training in mathematics, with an emphasis on: (1) teaching and learning process based on mathematical modelling, and (2) evaluation and curriculum development. In the last years, oriented: (a) Course?s Works Conclusion in Mathematics; (b) Scientific Research Works (IC) financed by FAPESP and CNPq (IC Junior); (c) Monographs of Postgraduate Courses "Lato Sensu" in Mathematical Modeling; and, (d) Professional master's dissertations, with scholarships from the Department of Education of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Currently, orients a Course?s Work Conclusion in mathematics, at the Federal University of São Carlos, Sorocaba Campus. The main published works were: (i) in 1997, co-authored with Guida de Abreu and Alan j. Bishop, a book's chapter titled "What children and teachers count as mathematics", in the book "Learning and Teaching Mathematics: an international perspective", edited by Terezinha Nunes and Peter Bryant; (ii) in 2001, co-authored with Alexandrina Monteiro, a book entitled "Mathematics and the cross-cutting issues", edited by the Editora Moderna; (iii) in 2005, along with Rodney c. Bassanezi, an article titled "A study of alternative modeling: Apple rot", in Biomathematics Journal, from the IME/UNICAMP; (iv) in 2013, organized, in conjunction with Maria Salett Biembengut and Emilia Melo Vieira, the book "Modeling [in] common: a tribute to Rodney Carlos Bassanezi", edited by UFABC, in which wrote, in co-authorship with Paulo Roberto Guimarães, the Chapter "Eight of may of 2013, a happy day or a sad day?"; and (v) in 2015, wrote, in co-authored with Henrique Marins de Carvalho and Rodney Carlos Bassanezi, a paper called "A mathematical Modeling applied to the study of two forms of artistic representation", in the Spanish Electronic Magazine "Modelling in Science Education and Learning".
