Beatriz de Faria Carniel

Trilingual PhD in Tropical Medicine (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine), with over a decade of experience in clinical research, biotechnology and scientific communication. As a specialist in human immunity and respiratory diseases, I have conducted groundbreaking clinical studies on pneumococcal colonization and influenza vaccination funded by the Bill Melinda Gates Foundation and CAPES with high-impact publications in JCI Insight, AJRCCM, Vaccine and Nature Immunology. During my Master's in Biotechnology (UFSCar/Embrapa), I developed AgNano, a pioneering software to assess the impacts of the use of nanotechnology in agriculture on health, the environment and society, with support from FAPESP.Since 2020, I have been working on translating complex scientific knowledge into accessible information for non-specialized audiences. I coordinated a multidisciplinary team at the Ação COVID-19 collective, an organization that researched how inequality affects the pandemic progression in Brazil, translating science to both the general public and decision-makers. Since then, I have been a consultant for scientific communication at the Pulmonary Research Laboratory (UFRJ) and have developed projects in partnership with the scientific translation company EasyTelling.
