Paulo Caramelli obtained his MD degree in 1987 at the University of São Paulo (USP) School of Medicine, in São Paulo, Brazil and completed the residency program in Neurology at the Hospital das Clínicas of the USP School of Medicine in 1991. He was a research fellow at the University of Montréal, Canada, from 1992 to 1994. Subsequently, in 1997, he completed a PhD in Neurological Sciences at the USP School of Medicine. He is currently Full Professor of Neurology at the Department of Internal Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and Coordinator of the Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology Research Group at UFMG, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Coordinator of the Residency Program in Neurology Service ot the university hospital (Hospital das Clínicas of UFMG) from 2008 to 2012, and coordinator of the Neurology Service of the Hospital das Clínicas of UFMG from 2012 to 2018. He also supervises MSc and PhD students at the post-graduate programs of Adult Health Applied Sciences and Neurosciences at UFMG. Research Scholar from the National Research Council (CNPq), Brazil. Full member of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology and foreign honorary member of the French Society of Neurology. He has served as president of the 27th Brazilian Congress of Neurology, held in Belo Horizonte, in August, 2016. Coordinator of the International Working Group on Neurocognitive Disorders of the World Health Organization for the Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) from 2011 to 2017. Chair of the Advisory Council of the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART) from 2022 to 2024. Councelor (2021-2023), Trustee (2023-current) and Vice Chair (2025-current) of the World Dementia Council. Editor-in-chief of Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria from 2018 to 2022. Associate editor of the American Journal of Neurodegenerative Disease, eNeurologicalSci, European Journal of Neurology and Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, as well as member of the editorial board of Dementia Neuropsychologia. Scholar from CNPq, Brazil. Researcher from the National Institute of Translational Neuroscience (INCT, CNPq). His research activities are focused on the areas of Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology, with emphasis on studies on brain aging, cognitive impairment and dementia. Paulo Caramelli supervised 38 medical students as undergraduate research fellows, 25 MSc students, 27 PhD students and three post-doctoral students. He is currently supervising two undergraduate medical students, two MSc students, three PhD students and one post-doctoral student. He has published 400 articles, being 360 in Medline indexed journals, 86 book chapters and has edited 6 books. His published articles have received 7,838 citations in the Web of Science database (H index = 43), 10,070 citations in SCOPUS (H index = 46) and 23,832 citations in Google Scholar (H index = 72).
