Paulo Borba Casella

Paulo Borba CASELLA, born in São Paulo in 1960, Brazilian and Italian citizen, married. After graduating in law (1982), reached his doctor degree in international law (1986) at the University of São Paulo, a master degree (DESS) in international trade law at the University of Paris X (1987), and his Habilitation (?livre docência?) in international law in 1993 at USP, received research grants (August-November 1991) from the Max Planck Foundation, for research at the Institute for foreign public law and public international law, in Heidelberg (1991), and from the German Academic Research Fund (DAAD), for a three month stay at the University of Berlin-Humboldt (2012). Since 1984, he has lectured international law at USP where he is the full professor of public international law since he reached the chair in 2007, also heading the International and Comparative Law Department (2008-2010, 2014-2018), presently in charge of the Commission for the publication of the Journal of USP Law School, and was (2010 to 2014) the Vice-Dean of the same institution. Invited to lecture at The Hague Acadedmy of International Law (2020), and as visiting professor at the Universities of Berlin-Humboldt (2012), Macao (2007 to 2012), Paris-Sorbonne (2007 and 2010), Paris-Panthéon-Assas (2005-2006), Strasbourg (2005) where he also co-directed a doctor degree (completed 2014), has given lectures in universities and spoken at conferences extensively in Brazil, including the Brazilian Society for the Progress of the Sciences (SBPC) (2015), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Brasilia and the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, as at various locations abroad such as the Russian Academy of Sciences Institute for Latin American Studies, in Moscow (2014), the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs, at the Hague (2013), given ?the Gilberto Amado Memorial Lecture? at the International Law Commission, in Geneva (2013), lectured at the XXXVI (in 2009) and XLII (2015) Courses of International Law of the Organization of American States, and also at the Permanent Court for Revision of the MERCOSUR, in Asunción, where he was granted the Rosalba medal and diploma (2015), as well as at the Universities of Amsterdam (1997, 2000), Asunción, Bielefeld, Buenos Aires, Coimbra (1996, 1999), Córdoba, Düsseldorf, Florence (2014), Hamburg, Heidelberg, Helsinki, Leiden (2013), Lisbon, Lodz, Lyon, Maastricht, Milan-Bocconi, Montreal, New Delhi (2009), Nice (1994, 1996), Ottawa, Rennes, Rome I La Sapienza (2009, 2014), Rome II Tor Vergata (2013), Saarbrücken (1993, 1995), Saint Petersburg (2011 and 2014), Salamanca (2011), Tokyo, Tübingen. He is fluent in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish. His publications include several books written or edited by him, as articles and chapters, published in some twenty countries.
