Birthplace: Brazil

Associate Professor of Politics at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar, Brazil), and Associate Editor of the Brazilian Political Science Review, published by the Brazilian Political Science Association (ABCP). He was Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Democracy and Human Development at the Kellogg Institute, University of Notre Dame (spring 2018), and Celso Furtado Visiting Professor at Cambridge University, St John's College (2015-2016). For his doctoral thesis, he received the CAPES Thesis Award 2009. In 2014 he received the Olavo Brasil de Lima Jr. Prize, awarded by the ABCP. He is researcher of FAPESP and CNPq (productivity scholarship), and co-director of GIPSAL - Grupo de Investigación de Partidos y Sistemas de Partidos en América Latina, Latin American Political Science Association (ALACIP). He is member of the Standing Groups on Political Parties, Federalism, and Presidential Politics of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR), and writes in the newspapers 'El País Brasil' and 'Valor Econômico'.
